Lise Fried, DSc, MS Senior Associate
Dr. Fried is a Senior Scientist and Epidemiology consultant. Most recently, she was the Executive Director of the Institute for Community Health (ICH), a nonprofit consulting organization that provides participatory evaluation, applied research, and planning/assessment to assist agencies and communities to improve programs and demonstrate impact to create sustainable solutions to complex public health challenges.
Dr. Fried is an executive with demonstrated success leading organizations, guiding them through all phases of development with skill and inspiration. She builds strong strategic partnerships and creates innovative change for organizations at all stages of development. She has a wide-ranging background in public health, including work in the academic and public sectors.
Her career-long work on epidemiologic research demonstrates her strong methodologic, design, and analysis skills. She was at ICH from 2002-2019 as Senior Epidemiologist, Associate Director, and Managing Director before becoming Executive Director. Previously, she was the Director of Research and Technology for the Boston Public Health Commission where she oversaw research activities, public health surveillance and reporting, information technology, and information systems.
Her research interests have focused on women’s health issues, including postpartum depression, the health effects of exposure to violence, pregnancy outcomes, risk factors for suicide, improving surveillance of injuries and illnesses, improving the use of data for public and community health decision-making, the role of women in nonprofit leadership. Dr. Fried is an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, her Master of Science degree in Public Health from Tufts University, and her doctoral degree in Epidemiology from Boston University.
